Have you heard of RMPP Action Groups?
Red Meat Profit Partnership (RMPP) is a Primary Growth Partnership programme whose aim is to help the red meat sector increase productivity and profitability.
RMPP is funded by meat processors, banks, Beef + Lamb New Zealand and the Ministry for Primary Industries. It works with farmers and sector businesses to develop, test and introduce new ideas, new technology solutions and new ways of working.
One of the outputs from this program is the RMPP Action Network and is made up of farmer Action Groups. Each Action Group is made up of between seven to nine farm businesses and is eligible for kick start funding of $4000 per farm business, up to $36,000 per group, to pay for a facilitator and expert advice. The facilitators are RMPP trained and are there to help guide each group and to help identify experts who can share new knowledge and ideas.
If you own or manage a commercial farm business that contributes to red meat production, you are eligible for funding. The benefits of joining an Action Group as a farm business are: involvement in a professionally facilitated, results focused, Action Group; money to spend on specialist advice and facilitation; help in finding solutions to support your business; connection to trusted, independent expertise; to tap into the knowledge and experience of other farmers, to name a few.
As farmers, you determine the structure and rules of your Action Group and decide how the group spends its funds. You identify farm business opportunities that are of benefit to your group and include these in the group's Extension Plan.
Totally Vets is contributing to the RMPP Action Groups both by providing expert vet and farm management advice as well as providing trained facilitators. Our newest group is in the Feilding area with farmers whose systems have breeding ewes and breeding beef cows and we see a need for a group focussed on commercial calf rearing of calves from four days old, to weaning and beyond (enquiries welcome).
